Portraits in the Park

Aaaahhh Spring is here! What comes to mind when you think of portraits this time of year?

Flowers, lush green grass, green leafy trees, beautiful fountains... the list goes on.

Having your portrait made is a collaboration between photographer and sitter. There is a lot of preparation that goes on before the actual snapping of the shutter. One being the backdrop for your portrait. I have found that Loose Park in Kansas City is an ideal location.

In April, the lilacs and azaleas were blooming and the colors and aroma were hypnotic. I photographed a couple for their wedding engagement and the background choices were plenty. Because they were from outside of the city, they wanted a natural, open background to reflect their rural ties.

Positioning the models in the shade, I used a flash to illuminate their faces, while still maintaining the correct exposure for the bright colored backgrounds.

The same was true for the women who wanted their business portraits made in the park as well. The fountain and beautiful stone architecture in the Rose Garden was a good choice for them.

We also did a beautiful Mother/Daughter portrait among the azaleas and also found a lovely scenic spot in the Japanese garden.
